This hand-built Vegetable Mug is a favorite among coffee and tea lovers, making it a perfect gift for anyone who appreciates unique, artisanal pottery. Unlike mass-produced ceramic mugs, each of these mugs begins as a flat slab of clay, carefully folded into its distinctive shape. The result? A beautifully crafted mug that is as sturdy as it is stunning.

Fired to Cone 10 for superior durability—compared to most commercial ceramics fired at Cone 5—this mug is made to last. Each piece undergoes over 14 hands-on steps and takes 9 days to complete, ensuring that no two mugs are ever exactly alike.

The Process:

Every mug starts as a hand-built stoneware slab that is pressed with hand-drawn stamps, real dried wildflowers, and antique lace for a truly unique texture. To enhance the intricate details, stains are carefully rubbed into the impressions before being dipped in hand-mixed glazes. Finally, the mug is high-fired in a rural Wisconsin studio, making it both functional and artistic.

Mug Details:

Size: 3" diameter x 4" tall
Capacity: Holds 12 fluid ounces
Durability: Food, dishwasher, oven, & microwave safe

Created by Colleen Deiss Designs. This is a handcrafted piece of art pottery, meaning that finished items will have variations in color and texture. Due to natural differences in monitors, colors may vary slightly from images. Additionally, since each piece is made by hand, glazes may differ slightly from the photo, making every mug a truly one-of-a-kind creation.

Enjoy the perfect balance of craftsmanship and function with this unique, hand-built Vegetable Mug—a true testament to the beauty of slow, intentional artistry.

All of our functional pottery is microwave, oven and dishwasher safe. All glazes are lead free and safe for food. Do not place them on direct heat and avoid extreme temperature changes (start in a cold oven). Pottery should never be placed under a broiler, over direct flame or on the stovetop. Let pottery preheat with the oven. You can take the chill off by filling with hot tap water before putting in a preheated oven or adding very hot liquids or food. If taking pottery directly from the refrigerator let it warm up a little before placing in a hot oven or heating in the microwave. Setting a hot dish on cold tile or countertop is another source of thermal shock. Use a potholder, cork or wooden trivet. Pottery is dishwasher safe and many find it safer washing by machine than by slippery hands. However for longest life, many potters recommend hand washing to avoid chipping.
